statement of intent

Introduction

The title will be Coterie

A Sri Lankan girl with makeup on. It will challenge stereotypes as you don't often see a Sri Lankan girl on the front cover of a magazine.
My main story will be about makeup and surgery as it can change your whole face which means that you don't have to feel insecure anymore, it can boost your confidence within yourself and make you stand out, it will give you the face and looks that you have always dreamt about.

Media Language

The cover lines talk about plastic surgery as the demand for plastic surgery is increasing rapidly. Plastic surgery helps to get your dream look and the way you wish to look. This will appeal to the upper class as they have the money to afford plastic surgery.
Props- the model is holding lip gloss in her hands, her calm expression while holding the lip gloss in her hands shows her interest in makeup.
Setting- the purpose of the plain white background is to make the model the centre of attention as it will make her appeal more to the audience.
My double page spread will be featuring makeup and how it can improve your self love, confidence, making you look the way you wish to appeal. This will appeal to my audience as my target audience are females who're interested in makeup.

Media Representations

My magazine includes repression as the cover image modal is of a Sri Lankan woman. This is unusual as it's rare for Asian women to be presented in the media and as the main person of a front cover.
Reinforce - my magazine will reinforce the stereotype as the model fits the typical stereotypes for women such as being perceived as really calm and feminine and have to be wearing lots of makeup to appeal to the audience. Also it will reinforce stereotypes by assuming all women are interested in pretty things like lip gloss.

Media Audiences

My target audience for my magazine is for the AB classes which include high income and highly successful people. It is mainly for young adults to middle aged people as they will be engaged with the magazine the most. Also my magazine will be featuring plastic surgery and the benefits that you can gain from it, which is why my magazine is aimed at females as females account for 92% of all cosmetic surgery while men only account for 8%.

My production will offer escapism as my audiences will be able to escape their life in something that will interest them and help them relate to the model as it features an Asian female.
